Cub Scouts is all about exploring the great outdoors, developing new skills, and building community.  Throughout the year, Pack 96 has numerous fun activities, including camping trips, pack hikes, community service projects, and other exciting events that will engage your child and encourage their curiosity.

About Pack 96

Our Pack is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. We currently have over 20 active scouts from across Merced, Atwater, and Winton.

Pack Meetings: Cub Scouts follows the academic calendar, beginning a program cycle each August through May. New families and scouts are welcome to join at any time, though start of the school year is recommended to enjoy all the fun!

  • During the School Year, the Pack meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month

  • During the summer, the Pack plans an activity at least once a month

The Pack is made up of 6 dens, organized by grade:

What's Going on Right Now

Community Service:

Cub Scouts are currently canvassing their neighborhoods for the Scouting for Food Drive.  Canned food and shelf-stable goods will be collected by the scouts and delivered to Merced's Harvest Time Food Pantry. Look out for a flier in your mailbox to see how to be a part of this food drive!

Community Engagement:

Look out for Pack 96 in Merced's Annual Veteran's Day Parade! The Cub Scouts worked hard on their parade signs and are ready to show their appreciation for those who have served.

Outdoor Program

Each program cycle, the Pack plans 2 Hikes and 2 Campouts with 1 hike / campout in the fall and the other in the spring. Additional outdoor activities may be scheduled as opportunities arise.

Fall:

  • Hike: Mirror Lake at Yosemite National Park.  Scouts from Tiger Den (1st Grade) through Arrow of Light (5th Grade) hiked the 5-mile trail and earned a special patch!

  • Campout: Lake Del Valle. Scouts learned knot tying, knife safety, and all about praying mantis during our visit to the Nature Center.

Spring:

  • Hike: The Pack will be hiking Point Lobos in Monterey

  • Campout: The Pack will be camping at Lake McSwain and learning how to fish!

The Pinewood Derby

Cubstruction: Every scout is given the opportunity to learn how to build their pinewood car with skilled adults and tools.
